CNNF offering Christmas tree permits

The 1.5 million acres of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) offers many forest products the public can gather. Anyone interested in gathering any forest products must first purchase a permit for a minimal fee. This time of year some of the most popular permits are for Christmas trees, boughs and firewood permits. The costs and conditions of these permits vary depending on the forest product a person is seeking.

“This is the time of year the National Forest really gets a lot of visitors, be it for finding the perfect Christmas tree or gathering a winter’s supply of firewood there are a lot of people enjoying their public lands. Before you decide to gather any forest products, it is important to know there are some conditions that need to be followed when taking part in these gathering opportunities,” said Suzanne Flory, public affairs officer for the forest. As a reminder to any visitor of the CNNF, as of January 2009 there will be a new designated motor vehicle road and trail system. Free maps of the system will be available online and at district offices.
