News : CoVantage Credit Unions warns of credit card scam
CoVantage Credit Union has recently discovered that outside individuals are making fraudulent calls, and requesting details about members’ debit cards.
So far these fraudulent phone calls have been generated by an automated attendant that indicates an individual’s ATM or debit card has been deactivated. The recipient of one of the fraudulent calls is then advised to call a specific phone number in order to have their card reinstated. Upon calling the number, the person is then asked to provide private card information, including card number, expiration date and PIN (personal identification number).
CoVantage Credit Union is not initiating these calls. Be advised that CoVantage Credit Union will never initiate a call, e-mail or text message to one of their members and ask them to provide details about any of their accounts with CoVantage.
If you are ever contacted by someone who states they are from CoVantage Credit Union and who then asks for your private account information, do not provide the information requested, and contact your local CoVantage office immediately.
Any information you have concerning this matter should be brought to the attention of Karla Hodgkins, Security Officer, CoVantage Credit Union at (715) 627-4336.
