Vlies declares for county treasurer
By Daily News Staff
Bob Vlies is hoping for a promotion.
Vlies, treasurer in the town of Enterprise, has taken out nomination papers for the position of Oneida County Treasurer.
Vlies has been treasurer for Enterprise for over seven years and he said he feels he is well qualified for County Treasurer Office.
“Living in Oneida County over 30 years, I worked for a financial institution in Rhinelander for 23 years and am currently the Accounting Supervisor for a business near Crandon,” Vlies said.
Vlies is also treasurer for the Pelican Lake Fire District and St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Enterprise. When he was a member of the Rhinelander Kiwanis Club he held the treasurer’s office for over five years.
“When I read in the paper that Jennie Huber was retiring from her position, I thought to myself, ‘Hmm, maybe I should try for her position,’ but then thought nothing of it until talking with a few people who encouraged me to do so especially with my above-mentioned experience,” Vlies said.
Huber, the incumbent treasurer, announced her retirement in April. She will leave office in January of 2009 after her successor is elected.
Oneida County Deputy Treasurer Kris Ostermann is also seeking Huber’s position.
