The Tomahawk wrestling team sent eight members to compete in the Division 2 sectional in Somerset Saturday, and three grapplers will be moving on to the state meet.

Nick Hagar -- who is a two-time state champion at 125 and 135 -- qualified for state by winning the 140-pound weight class. Hagar (46-0) was dominant, scoring a pin over Rice Lake's Zach Strenke at 2:58 in the opening round and a pin over West Salem/ Bangor's Steve Stark at 2:46 the next round. In the finals, Hagar won by major decision, 10-0, over Bloomer's Zach Borofka.

Rudy Chagoya (125) won his first two matches 7-0 and 6-1 before losing in the championship 4-2 in two overtimes to Thane Antczak of Chetek/Prairie Farm. In the second place match, Chagoya redeemed himself with a pin at 4:16 over Durand's Luke Bauer.

Zach Zehner (130) cruised in the first two rounds -- a pin at 3:41 in his first match and a 13-5 victory in his second match -- and fell 3-2 in the final to Mondovi's Derek Marten.

Jordan McAllister (152), after losing his first-round match 4-0, ran the table, won 3-2 in wrestlebacks and fell in the third round via pin at 1:52.

Eric Ravelo (285) won his opening-round match 6-5, but lost 8-3 in the second round and was pinned at 5:17 in his third match.

Sam Arnott (112) went 0-2 on the day, as did Chris George (135).

Patricia Hill (103) fell 10-0 in her only match of the day.

As a team, Tomahawk finished third on the day with 50 points. Neillsville was first with 79.5, followed by Ellsworth with 77.

The state meet will start Thursday in Madison.

Girl Scouts tour Rhinelander
The best thing about our community is the people. That's the response you will get from Girl Scout Troop 169 after they toured several downtown businesses. The trip lasted 8 hours and included tours of the library, police station, fire department, Forth Floral, Family Video, Trig's, Trig's Floral, the post office and the Daily News. At each business the girls were met with a friendly guide who patiently answered all of their questions and sent them on their way. They returned home later that day with a bag full of souvenirs and a better understanding of the community. Although when you ask the girls about the tour, they don't mention coloring books, pins or plants, they remember the smiling faces that took time to show them around. READ MORE >
