Marshfield Clinic Minocqua Center recently contributed $1,000 to the Lakeland Nordic ski team to assist them in hosting the high school Nordic State Championships. The event will be held in Minocqua at Winter Park on Feb. 8 - 10.

“This event comes to us once every 10 years and brings more than 400 skiers, coaches and their families from Milwaukee, Madison, central Wisconsin, Hayward and other parts of the state. This weekend will help showcase our area as a great destination for winter sports to the many visitors who will be attending,” said Sandy Bolger, event co-chairperson. “We are so thankful for the support of the Marshfield Clinic and other area businesses that are helping us host this event.”

Lakeland Nordic Ski Team head coach Ken Schoville said Minocqua has a long history with the event.

“Minocqua was the initial site for the first championship, held in 1982, and we are always happy to be able to host it here,” Schoville said.

Funds left over from donations will be used to improve ski trails, provide scholarships for youth skiers and update equipment.

“The clinic is always glad to support area organizations that help to improve the health and well being of the people in our communities,” said Julie Thompson, administrator, Northern Division, Marshfield Clinic. “Many of our physicians and staff have children who participate on the Lakeland Nordic ski team and we wish them all the best of luck in this State Championship competition.”

Girl Scouts tour Rhinelander
The best thing about our community is the people. That's the response you will get from Girl Scout Troop 169 after they toured several downtown businesses. The trip lasted 8 hours and included tours of the library, police station, fire department, Forth Floral, Family Video, Trig's, Trig's Floral, the post office and the Daily News. At each business the girls were met with a friendly guide who patiently answered all of their questions and sent them on their way. They returned home later that day with a bag full of souvenirs and a better understanding of the community. Although when you ask the girls about the tour, they don't mention coloring books, pins or plants, they remember the smiling faces that took time to show them around. READ MORE >
