The Campanile Center for the Arts is holding auditions for its upcoming production of Stephen Sondheim's award-winning musical Into the Woods. Auditions will be held Monday, Feb. 11 and Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Campanile Center for the Arts, 141 Milwaukee St. (corner of Milwaukee and Flambeau streets) in downtown Minocqua.

Callbacks will be held the following Monday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m. Those interested should prepare a song from a musical no longer than two minutes and bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.

The production is seeking 13 women and 9 men of all types, ages 15 and older, but particularly ages 30 to 65. All roles require the ability to hold parts, a good ear for harmony and light dancing. The ability to sight-read is a big plus. The music is challenging to sing but lots and lots of fun.

You can call the Campanile Center for the Arts for a breakdown of the roles and singing ranges involved.

Into the Woods is one of Sondheim's most popular works, a rare modern classic that combines the well-known fairy tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood with an original story of a baker and his wife who desperately want a child.

Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

Performances will be April 4, 5, and 6 at the Campanile Center for the arts. For more information, call 356-9700.
