RHS swimmers fall in final home meet
by Daily News Sports
Senior/parents' night didn't go quite as scripted Thursday night for the Rhinelander boys' swimming team.
The Hodags, who swam at home for the final time this season, won four of 11 events against Wisconsin Rapids and dropped their Wisconsin Valley Conference dual meet, 94-76.
Rhinelander (3-3 in the conference) received individual first-place finishes from Ben Lonsdorf -- 100-yard freestyle (49.39) -- Joel McReynolds -- 100 butterfly (1:05.86) -- and Adam Schneider -- 500 freestyle (5:37.45).
The 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of McReynolds, Luke Wegehaupt, Lonsdorf and Andrew Baker finished on top in 1:43.28.
Wegehaupt nabbed runner-up finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:10.02) and 200 individual medley (2:28.65).
In the 100 breaststroke, Lonsdorf came in second, clocking in at 1:06.39.
Baker, who is a senior, came in second in the 200 freestyle (2:11.38) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:54.27).
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Hodags' team of Schneider, Lonsdorf, McReynolds and Nick Cirilli finished second (1:56.7).
Baker, Cirilli, Wegehaupt and Schneider came in second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:59.78).
Wisconsin Rapids (4-2 in the Valley) was led by freshman Ryan Korslin, who won two events in the meet, the 200 individual medley (2:16.05) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.36).
The Hodags will next compete at the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet at Tomahawk on Feb. 2.
