Here's to Mr. Freeze: If you can't beat'em, join'em

The January freeze is almost over! When I got married and moved up to the Northwoods someone told me to buy the best quality outdoor wear I could afford and then I would enjoy being outside in our Northern Wisconsin winters. That was the best marital advice I have ever received! Let's get outside this weekend and enjoy some winter fun!
Tonight is Tropical Night in January at the YMCA of the Northwoods. Bring the whole family for open swim, open gym, and special activities. Dress up in your tropical attire for a fun-filled family night. Call the YMCA at 362-9622 for more info.
The Women on Snow snowmobile ride starts today at noon through Sunday at the Wild Eagle Resort in Eagle River. Call 479-3301 or 479-2087 for more info.
Tomorrow there is an Ice Fisheree on Lake Julia on the Nicolet Campus in Rhinelander. The Nicolet College Land Survey Club is sponsoring the event. Bring out the entire family for outdoor fun. There will be cash contest prizes. Call Scott at 920-379-4983 or campus information at 365-4646.
The Chill Out-a Northwoods Family Celebration and Ice Fishing Contest is tomorrow on Big Arbor Vitae Lake. Registration starts at 7 a.m. at Slo's Pub with catch and release fishing from 8 to 3 p.m. There will be activities for the entire family. Tomorrow is the Magical Moments Bridal Expo at the Holiday Inn Express in Rhinelander. The show is sponsored by Lund & Taylor Bridal Gallerie and features over 40 local exhibitors. The show starts at 11 a.m. and the bridal fashion show starts at 2 p.m. The admission fee is a food pantry donation. Call 369-3669 for more info.
The 4th Annual Indoor Cycle-a-Thon will be held Saturday at the YMCA of the Northwoods. Former residents and nationally recognized cyclists Gordy Paulson and Diane Ostenso will be the guest instructors for this special event. Riders will be collecting pledges for the time they cycle and all money raised goes towards new cycling equipment. Register by calling the YMCA at 362-9622.
The Conover Sno-Buddies Snowmobile Club will hold a Chili Cook-off on Saturday at the Maple View Resort starting at 3 p.m. Call the Conover resort for more info.
The Mole Lake Casino and Lodge is featuring Pro Vintage Snowmobiling Racing this weekend. Races start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and feature 30 classes of sleds and 30 races. The Northwoods Children's Museum in Eagle River is hosting their Annual Children's Tea Party on Saturday. The event starts at 11 a.m. and tickets must be reserved in advance. Call the museum to see if tickets are still available at 479-4623.
The Northwoods Concert Association is sponsoring Pops pianist Sally Harmon on Saturday night. The concert will be held at the Rhinelander High School Auditorium.
