There is something for every taste.

Holiday Acres Resort, three miles east of Rhinelander off Highway P, offers a relaxed elegant evening of dinner and dancing with music by the Tomboulian's. They play American popular music from the 30's-70's. Holiday Acres has a long history of jazz throughout the year and on New Year's Eve.

Holiday Acres is also having guest Chef Tom, formerly of the Cottage Inn in Minocqua, create a grand evening of dining. Hickory smoked ribeye with brandy horseradish cream sauce and wild mushroom stuffed pork tenderloin are two of the specials. Wine sampling with entrees, an East Coast Champagne toast at 11 p.m., valet parking, party favors and festive decor in the Three Coins Dining Room complete a New Year's Eve to remember. You can contact Gladys or Rhonda at 715-369-1500 for more details.

Rocky's Roadhouse, 4293 County Highway P, will celebrate New Year's Eve with some good time rock and roll by Roadkill. Look for party favors, champagne, food and a good time. The band starts at 8 p.m. and goes until their fingers fall off, or whenever they decide to quit.

You could park the car and make downtown Rhinelander your place to celebrate. The party will go on to the wee small hours of the morning. The Rhinelander Pub and Cafe will offer food specials such as apricot and walnut stuffed pork loin and broiled Canadian salmon. The dining room will be open until 10:30 p.m.

Our Place Bar and Grill on Brown Street will have cash and prizes at $1 a ticket or 6 for $5. From 10 to 11 p.m. and again from 2 to 3 a.m. the special is half price drinks. Champagne will be served at midnight. 3 to 4 a.m. will see free tap beer and free pizza will be offered at 6 a.m. Emil Zalabak is the owner. If you're around earlier in the day, stop by and wish Andy Quade Happy Birthday.

Shorty's Hodag Bistro's kitchen will be open until midnight. Food specials include homemade chili and cheesecake. There will be free champagne and party favors at midnight. They plan on being open until 4 a.m. Bugsy's Sports Bar and Grill will have drink specials and party favors and the kitchen will be serving pizza until midnight.

Bucketheads Sports Bar and Grill is celebrating its one-year anniversary as well as New Year's Eve. From 6 to 8 p.m. owner Mike Hastreiter is serving free tap beer, free rail mixers and free food. What could be better. Jamz D.J. will be spinning the platters all evening long and special commemorative cups will be handed out. They plan on throwing everybody out at 6 a.m. like last year.

There are a number of fine dining establishments around the area. Within a few miles of Rhinelander are Budreau's, Shady Sue's and the Al-Gen.

Mike Budreau is the owner of Budreau's Backwaters Supper Club at 4920 Highway 47. The specials for New Year's Eve are a steak and lobster dinner and a New York strip steak. All dinners come with a visit to the salad bar. Budreau says they will be serving from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you're looking for an early dinner, stop by Budreau's and catch the view of the Wisconsin River, always nice on a winter evening.

Sue Kress of Shady Sue's will be cooking up a storm with roast duck and a bone-in rib eye steak as New Year's Eve specials. The duck is slow roasted with an orange glaze and comes with spatzel and sauerkraut. The rib eye is served with sauteed mushrooms and onions. Shady Sue's is located at 3320 Boyce Dr. and is open for dinner at 4 p.m. She will be serving until everyone's full.

The Al-Gen, at 3428 Faust Lake Rd., is a great old supper club that is always decorated for the holidays. They serve the classics on New Year's Eve, jumbo shrimp. lobster, steak and prime rib. Hours on New Year's Eve are from 4:30 p.m. to closing. And, if you'd rather have a quiet dinner on New Year's day, the restaurant will serve the same classic dishes from 5 p.m. to closing.

You can enjoy a quiet dinner or rock around the New Year's clock, all without leaving Rhinelander. Drive carefully and Happy New Year.
