Today is the first official day to buy Girl Scout cookies. Yes it is that time of the year to support all of our area Girl Scout troops! Did you know that Girl Scout Thin Mints is the number two selling cookie nationwide? Cookies still sell for $3.50 a box and they have a new cinnamon cookie. The cookies freeze wonderfully -we just finished our freezer stash last week! The girls earn money to pay for their summer camp fees, as well as providing the troops with events to help these bright young women learn new skills. My Brownie troop has set a goal to earn enough to go to Cedar Creek for a water park field trip!
To be fair the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts are starting their Popcorn sale next week also. They have awesome microwave popcorn as well as a variety of flavored popcorn in tins.
If you are a parent of one of these young entrepreneurs be sure to teach them safety practices such as always sell in daylight, take an adult with you, and never give out your complete name and phone number to strangers.
Peak colors can be seen in our area for the next 3-4 weeks. Celebrate the beginning of Fall on Sunday by taking a hike or bike ride through the forest. Or take a scenic drive or a leisurely boat ride to experience the awe-inspiring fall colors. Go to the Fall Color Hotline on the Internet if you plan on traveling. Find it at www.fs.fed.us/recreation/fall.htm
Happy Fall!
