Start the weekend by touring the Logging Camp Museum in Pioneer Park. The Northwoods Lions Club will be featuring their food wagon at the park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ron Warshall will be demonstrating the science of woodturning and will have his products on sale. While there, be sure to wander over to the Hodag Farmers' Market for some homegrown produce from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This Saturday is the 13th Anniversary of the Farmer's Market and they have special events planned, including anniversary cake at 10 a.m., special drawings every half hour, and kids can make their own fairy gardens.

The Vilas County Fair is going on now through Sunday at the Eagle River Fairgrounds. Go to www.eagleriver.com for more information.

Don't miss Sugar Camp's “Ya Gotta Regatta” at Pitlik's Sand Beach Resort on Saturday (Highway 17 North to D, go west on D). The 7th Annual Polish Regatta features land challenges and water challenges, including a “Sinking Dingy” division challenge. Food, refreshments and polka music will be available all day. Call 479-7488 for information.

Pet Haven will be sponsoring the outside food booth at Wal-Mart on Saturday to benefit the Pet Haven Sanctuary. Patrons will receive a free item with purchases. Call 362-0992 for more information on Pet Haven.

Peter Monette will be at Trig's on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. signing copies of his book “Teamwork,” the story of the renovation of Lambeau Field. Books will be available for sale.

The 8th Annual Fuddfest, a country music festival, is being held through the weekend in Deerbrook, north of Antigo. Contact www.fuddfest.org for more information.

For those of you who love to fish (and for all of you “Fishing Star Groupies”), there is the 51st Annual Musky Jamboree, Arts, & Crafts Fair, and Antique Auto Show in Boulder Junction on Sunday. Contact www.boulderjct.com for more information.

The Pelican Lake Picnic will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Town of Pelican Town Hall on Hwy P, east of Rhinelander. Live country music featuring the Desparados as well as food, desserts, and beverages will be available. There will be games for the kids and adults. Proceeds benefit the local military support group to provide care packages to troops overseas.

“Art on Main” will be held on Sunday in Three Lakes. For more info go to www.threelakes.com.

The 22nd Annual Headwaters Charity Golf Tournament will be held Monday at the Rhinelander Country Club. Call Ron Bosi today to see if you can still reserve your spot at 365-3201. This event has been around a number of years and is a good time as well as a good cause to help support Headwaters, Inc., the agency that helps support work training and skills training for those with learning and motor function challenges.

Plan on attending the Paul Bunyan Fest on Wednesday in downtown Eagle River. Local wood “chain saw artist” Ken Schels will be demonstrating his woodcarving skills. Food and activities will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can still gather up your rummage goods, crafts and fleas for the weekly Flea Markets in Rhinelander held each Wednesday at the Rhinelander Ice Arena. Let the family gather their stuff and make some money for back to school necessities (but don't tell them they are helping you clean out their junk!). Call 282-5035 to reserve your space.

Good news from the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce..the 14th Annual Oktoberfest will be celebrated Labor Day weekend instead of in traditional October. Weather conditions may have had something to do with that decision, but what a wonderful change. Hope you put the date on your calendar and call the Chamber for more information.

When getting your “back to school” supplies ready, pack up the family-friendly books your family doesn't read anymore and bring them to the Rhinelander Food Pantry so the families picking up food can pick out a book each week. This is a great family recycling program!

If you see Max Holperin this week wish him a very happy 9th Birthday! We will be hosting a party for all of his fellow third graders to be, so I have to get busy and start filling water balloons! Seems like it was just yesterday when he was about as big as a freshwater walleye and feeding from a bottle. Now he (and his friends) are all bigger than a championship musky.
