Hodags lose 9-1
by DAILY NEWS SPORTS
Things are just not clicking for the Rhinelander boys' hockey team.
After a handful of intense practices throughout the holidays to get ready for the rest of the season, the Hodags opened up 2007 with a 9-1 loss at D.C. Everest on Tuesday.
“We are not competing - we started out flat and ended flat,” Rhinelander head coach M.J. Laggis said.
The Hodags were down 8-0 before getting on the scoreboard at the 12:27 mark of the third period on a Tyler Henkel goal with an assist from Ryan Trembley.
Jason Barber played the first two periods-plus between the pipes, registering 19 saves and allowing seven goals. Jacob Jackomino stopped two of four shots he faced.
According to Laggis, his players are practicing well, but they aren't producing when they need to.
“We are trying to force turnovers Š and we can do it in a setting where there is not another team there,” he said.
Laggis isn't sure if his players are panicking during game situations.
