Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care recently joined together to support the local “Girls on the Run” program in Northwoods with a financial contribution totaling $1,900.

“Girls on the Run” is an international non-profit organization with a mission to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

“This is an experiential learning program for girls in grades 3-5 that combines running with activities that encourage emotional, social, mental and physical health in addition to character development,” said Lynn Laurence, program organizer. “We recently completed our fifth season, providing the program to Arbor Vitae-Woodruff and Minocqua-Hazelhurst & Lake Tomahawk girls with an all-volunteer staff. There will be another session beginning in the spring and we have the potential to expand this to other schools in our area.

“We are excited about the donation from Ministry and Marshfield Clinic as it will help continue the program and also enable our leaders to receive additional training. Peg O'Connell and I will attend a national conference in January that will help us develop new strategies, tools and techniques that can improve our overall effectiveness while maintaining the integrity of the program,” Laurence continued.

Officials from Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care explained that this donation was made to assist a local program that serves the physical, emotional and social health of girls in the communities they serve.
