Entrepreneurs learning how to put plans in motion

“What are you working on?” is not necessarily the question to drop into a conversation at an Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club meeting, unless, of course, you have a signed confidentiality statement in hand.

Sixteen people showed up at Tuesday's meeting of the Northwoods Inventors and Entrepreneurs Club at the Oneida County Airport to hear Dr. Jeff Hall speak on the patent process. As a research chemist with the Kodak Company, Hall, the newly named Executive Director of Downtown Rhinelander, Inc., shared his own experiences with obtaining patents for new ideas and inventions.

Hall's presentation sparked questions and lengthy discussion among group members after the meeting.

“There are people here working on all different levels,” said JoAnne Rajeck of Rhinelander who was attending her first meeting of the club, “A group like this helps you decide if your ideas are feasible.”

Kim Schaffer of Eagle River has attended all four meetings of the newly formed club and said she wanted to “learn how to document her ideas.”

According to Oneida County UW-Extension Agent Dan Kuzlik, the club, which is modeled after an Inventors and Entrepreneurs club model used by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce (including its name), is not meant only for inventors and entrepreneurs, but business people as well.

“The name can really throw people,” said Kuzlik, “but this group is for anyone who has an idea. Business people are more than welcome. If you own a business or want to start one this club is for you, too.”

Kuzlik said assistance is available for those developing business plans or devising marketing strategies.

OPINION ALL OPINIONS >
Let's look before we leap (08.16.2006)
The conviction that the United States ought to pull out of Iraq is growing. It is not (yet) the opinion of a majority of the American people; polls indicating that a majority is seriously dissatisfied with the way things are going there don't translate readily into a conclusion that we ought to bug out. But the Democrats are slowly pulling together around that proposition, and a few prominent conservatives (including Bill Buckley) have joined them in throwing in the towel. READ MORE >
