Rhinelander is the home of The Daily News, which is published six mornings a week, Sunday through Friday.

The Daily News also publishes Business Watch, a monthly business-to-business publication and Best Years, a monthly publication for mature readers.

The Daily News facility is located in Rhinelander's central business district and houses all editorial, advertising, circulation, finance, press and mailroom operations.

The newspaper and its affiliated publications are printed on a Goss Community press, installed in 2005. It has a four-high color tower to print eight-page sections. The company also handles commercial customers.

History

The Daily News has ties to 1882, the year the City of Rhinelander was platted.

The roots of The Daily News are traced to two weekly newspapers: The New North, established in 1882, the year the city was officially platted; and The Vindicator which was originally established in Eagle River in 1890.

The Vindicator changed its name in 1910 to The Rhinelander News and in 1917, in an attempt to better cover news and events of World War I; the publishers decided a daily newspaper was necessary, so The Daily News was born. In 1947 The Daily News purchased The New North.

The Daily News was owned by The Frank J. Russell group of Michigan in 1925, with Cliff Ferris serving as editor and manager. He eventually purchased all of the stock from the Michigan group and owned the newspaper until 1968 when he sold it to Scripps League Newspapers, which constructed the current building in 1969 and switched the newspaper to offset printing.
