The Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association (RASTA) held mountain bike races out at Camp Tesomas on Sunday. With 114 riders, it was the largest turnout yet for the group's annual event. RASTA's next mountain bike event will be at the Washburn Lake Trails on Aug. 4.

focusing on W-2 program, improving child care A revamping of the state's W-2 (Wisconsin Works) program, and hopefully, as a result, more unemployed people returning to the realm of the employed. That is one of the top priorities currently for the state Department of Children and Families according to the department's secretary Eloise Anderson, who recently made a stop by the Northwoods River News offices.
Funding the fair The Oneida County Fair has brought fun and entertainment to the area for 116 years and now the fair committee wants to encourage local businesses and organizations to give back so the event stays afloat.
Local man spots big cat Town of Pine Lake resident Bill Voelker had an interesting morning on May 9.
While he was driving on River Road, about a mile south of Bridge Road in McNaughton, a large cat crossed the road about 50 feet in front of his vehicle.
"I'm thinking, 'a big bobcat,' then I saw the long tail ... that's no bobcat," Voelker said.
